Before the advent of the federal highway system, Route 66 was a major artery to the west, running from Chicago’s Navy Pier to Santa Monica’s Pier on the Pacific coast.

But today, you can still take (most of) this historic road, and there are plenty of fun pit stops along the way.

And as you might expect, a lot of them are pretty interesting, rather quirky experiences.
