Airlines with the Worst Tarmac Delays

It’s one of the frustrations of air travel — you board the plane, push back from the gate only to sit, sometimes for hours, on the tarmac.

We seem to define our favorite airlines these days by which is the least painful, and now comes the latest research on which airlines have the worst tarmac delays.

Let’s start with the winners: Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest. Hawaiian had just 80 tarmac delays on departure and 87 on arrival per 100,000 flights last year.

Southwest had just 224 tarmac delays, and Alaska Airlines came in third with 448 departure delays.

The worst offenders are JetBlue, with a whopping 1,228 departure delays, followed by United and American.

So, based on these figures, if you’re planning on flying JetBlue anytime soon, you might want to bring plenty of reading material. You just might finish all of it before you take off.
