Airlines across the board are raising their fees for checked bags, and in some cases, the price you may be charged for checking two bags might actually exceed the cost of your original ticket. But that’s not all.

They are also increasing the charge for bags that exceed 50 pounds — even if the excess is only a pound — and that could run you an additional $100.
