If you like to bicycle when visiting cities, don’t just see if they’re officially bike friendly with lots of bike lanes.

You also need to check the local speed limit. It’s the cities that post slower speed limits that will make your trip safer.

Check out a site called People For Bikes that measure how cities perform in terms of traffic, pedestrians and, of course, that all important speed limit, as well as individual city websites that can give you a comprehensive bike map and routes.
