The Goldcoast Railroad Museum was founded in 1956 at former Naval Air Station Richmond in Florida. The non-profit museum promotes historical trains and railroads, and houses more than 30 historic trains; the museums sole purpose is to teach railroad history with artifacts, movies, and railroad materials. Another cool feature about the museum: you can take a ride aboard vintage train cars! So what does this museum have in common with Presidents’ Day you ask? Simple, it houses Presidential Rail Car 1, Ferdinand Magellan. “F.M.” is the only car ever custom built for a President in the 20th Century. The Presidential Car, approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, features and observation lounge, a dining room, ad four bedrooms labeled “A-D”, each containing an upper and lower berth, a vanity, closet, dresser, wash basin, toilet, and medicine cabinet. The only other two presidents to use the car were Truman and Eisenhower.
