Ride Share Reservations: The Hidden Cost of Convenience
Planning on using a ride share app like Uber or Lyft?
Both services offer an option for you to reserve your ride in advance.
But a caution if you’re heading for the airport. An advance reservation means you will pay extra for that convenience, and it’s not necessarily disclosed at the time you book your car.
A $24 fare suddenly becomes a $55 ride — the car service added a $19 reservation fee, a $7 booking fee, and a nearly $5 airport surcharge.
And that’s before the service asks you if you want to include a tip.
I recently priced an advance reservation ride from Manhattan to JFK for a one-day business trip, and the total price?
More than the cost of driving myself to the airport and parking in the garage.
