2026: The Summer of New Airline Routes

2026 is fast becoming the summer of new airline routes, many more than in recent years. In the last year, new nonstop routes — for the first time — between the U.S. and Morocco, Greenland, and Thailand.

But this year, Delta Air Lines adds new nonstop flights from the U.S. to Malta. United Airlines will fly to Split, Bari, and Glasgow. Even Southwest Airlines has announced 31 new routes for 2026. American Airlines is inaugurating perhaps the shortest nonstop international flight, from Miami to the island of Bimini in the Caribbean — just 64 miles.

One caution: not all the new flights are daily, so check with your airline. But the good news is that for a growing number of destinations, you don’t have to connect at an intermediate foreign airport.
