The Essentials
How Powerful Is Your Passport?
It’s a fact that a majority of Americans still do not own a U.S. passport.
But for those who do, there’s the question of how powerful is your passport.
How many countries will allow you to use your passport to enter without the necessity of a visa?
According to the latest Henley Index, which measures passports based on the number of destinations their holders can enter without need of a prior visa, Singapore has the top spot with 192 destinations of visa-free access.
Japan and South Korea also top the list with 188 visa-free countries.
And the least powerful passports: Afghanistan, which allows only 24 destinations. It’s followed by Syria and Iraq.
And the U.S. passport? We’re in the top ten and we can go to 179 countries without needing a visa in advance.
