The Essentials
States with the Worst Flight Delays and Cancellations
The government shutdown is over, at least for now, and many officials are claiming things are back to normal. But it might be helpful to know that the new normal also includes flight disruptions.
One study has now revealed the U.S. states that are the most affected by cancellations and delays. Coming in worst for flight delays and cancellations is West Virginia, with more than 27% of its flights disrupted. That’s followed by New Jersey at 26%, then Virginia, Kansas, and Florida rounding out the worst five.
In West Virginia, it means that three out of ten flights didn’t leave on time or didn’t leave at all. Weather is a huge contributing factor there. And in New Jersey, more than one in four flights is late or scratched, which can often result in onward flights at connecting airports also being delayed.
