The Essentials
Common Holiday Travel Scams
As the holiday season approaches, there’s also a rise in local travel scams.
There are the taxi drivers that say their meters are broken, and demand cash. Don’t get in.
Or you get a phone call from someone posing as an airline representative asking to confirm a recent airline ticket purchase and asking for your credit card details.
And a growing scam, you’re walking with a group of friends and a stranger asks if you’d like them to take your group photo, with your camera. It seems like a gracious offer, and you hand them your phone, and they run off.
The bottom line, situational awareness is key.
Always insist on a working meter and pay the cab driver with a credit card. Never reveal your credit card details to anyone unless they offer a two-step verification process, and never hand a stranger your cell phone.
