The Essentials

You Can Now Add Your Passport to Your Phone

We all know about shoes off, belts off, laptops out — the usual security drill.

Lately, we’ve been able to keep our shoes on or at least in the U.S.

And we’ve all been advised about the need for a REAL ID designation on our driver’s license — with that gold star — as a required form of identification at TSA security checkpoints.

But now, there may be an easier way to authenticate yourself.

If you have a valid U.S. passport, you can now add it to your phone and use it as approved at U.S. airports.

It works on both iPhone and Android.

TSA.gov has the details on how to add your passport to your phone.

And of course, if you’re on an international flight, you still need to bring your physical passport with you.
