The Essentials
New System Could Save You Time on International Connection
Travelers returning to the U.S. from an international flight and then connecting to a domestic flight have one part of the process that is always slowing them down: their checked bags.
You have to wait to first retrieve your luggage, then check it back in for your connecting flight and that can add a lot of wasted time to your journey and in some cases result in delayed bags at your destination.
United Airlines is now testing a new system on flights from Sydney to San Francisco.
Passengers no longer have to recheck their bags when they arrive in the U.S., and then they can go right to TSA security and then to their gates.
Average time saved per passenger: 45 minutes.
The hope is the system will soon expand to all incoming international flights sometime in 2026.
