Why Fewer Tourists Are Visiting the U.S. in 2025

Tourism to the United States has been dropping dramatically since February. In fact, the U.S. was the only destination among 184 countries projected to see a decline in visitor spending in 2025, as much as $25 billion, or maybe even more.

Compounding the problem, the new charge — the U.S. calls it a visa integrity fee — of at least $250 for foreign visitors may prove to be a financial barrier to entry for many would-be foreign travelers and tourists to the U.S. That fee comes on top of visa application processing fees already charged to prospective foreign visitors, which is as much as $205.

What does this mean for your travel costs? With a drop in foreign arrivals, it means to be on the lookout for huge drops in airfare costs on international flights starting in late September. With fewer visitors filling airline seats to the U.S., it means a lot of empty seats heading in the other direction.
