Why Planes Make You Gassy
It’s not a subject people like to talk about, but it’s a scientific fact that you are more gassy on a plane than you are on the ground, and all puns intended, that stinks.
The most recent scientific study by a group of European doctors has, well, caught wind. The researchers studied cabin pressure, as well as passenger drinking, eating, and digestive habits at cruising altitude.
The doctors explain the increase in airborne flatulence as the equivalent of a water bottle expanding and contracting as outside pressure fluctuates.
The same thing is happening with gas volume in your intestines. The ways to minimize the problem?
Avoid fatty foods and carbonated drinks. You might even consider sucking on some peppermint or wintergreen mints instead.
Your fellow passengers might thank you.
