Why Airfares Are Still High And What You Can Do

Why are airline ticket prices still high? Because demand has returned, but supply — the number of seats available — is not back yet.

There are 11% fewer seats available on most domestic flights and more than 12% fewer available on international flights.

And with demand high and supply low, the prices go up. The best way to fight that — flexibility.

Be willing to fly at off-peak hours, connect through alternate cities and — above all — fly on a Tuesday or a Wednesday, when demand drops.

So does the price.
