The Essentials

Fastest and Slowest Commutes in the U.S.

Major city commuters know the trouble of daily traffic all too well. But which U.S. cities boast the fastest commute times?

The winner: Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at just under 22 minutes, followed by Columbus, Ohio; Memphis, Tennessee; Fresno, California; Detroit; and Tucson.

And the cities with the longest commute times? Not a surprise: New York and Chicago have the highest commutes, followed by Los Angeles at 27 minutes — and that’s on a very good day.

The bigger numbers are also concerning: American drivers waste, on average, between 89-101 hours a year in traffic.
