The year 2025 may go down as the year U.S. airlines rapidly expanded their international routes.
But at the same time, many carriers have reduced or outright eliminated domestic routes. Frontier Airlines has essentially taken an axe to their route network, suspending more than 40 cities, including Raleigh-Durham to Buffalo, Cincinnati, Midway, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse.
Other routes affected include Dallas to Omaha, Jacksonville, St. Louis, Atlanta to Islip, Minneapolis, and Cleveland to Philadelphia and Baltimore, among others.
Spirit Airlines has already slashed more than 35 routes.
In many cases, it might even be less expensive to fly overseas than between many U.S. domestic cities.
