Alaska Airlines Launches Permanent Electronic Bag Tags
Many of us have heard about AirTags, which allow you to track your luggage. But now, Alaska Airlines is the first U.S. carrier to offer permanent electronic bag tags.
This system allows passengers checking bags to skip the usual step of printing bag tags at the airport. You can program your own permanent tag up to 24 hours before your flight departs.
Then, simply touch your phone with your confirmation code to the tag, which will display your flight information. Once at the airport, just head to the bag drop. It saves a considerable amount of time.
However, the new tags — which cost $89 — only work on Alaska Airlines, and you can’t track your bags using these tags. For now, my advice is to continue using devices like the Apple AirTag until Alaska or other airlines introduce the next generation of permanent tags.
