Rules If You’re Bumped from Flight

Do you know the rules if you get bumped from your flight?

First, if your flight is overbooked, your airline is required by law to ask for volunteers to give up their seats in exchange for compensation.

But how much compensation?

It’s actually negotiable. If no one volunteers, the airline then ups the ante and increases the compensation until someone agrees.

On average, the amount is usually under $1,000.

But on some flights, the amount went as high as $10,000.

But before you accept an airline offer, always determine if the amount is in the form of a restricted voucher, with blackout dates, or limited time validity, or if it is only limited to domestic flights.

Then, and only then, should you ever accept a voucher.
