Until now, we all seemed to earn our frequent flyer miles in a vacuum.
But now, one airline is allowing you to pool your miles with up to five family members or friends into one account.
United Airlines is allowing you to combine miles with relatives or close friends.
The airline claims that by allowing pooling of miles, it will make travel easier for families or friends.
In principle, it sounds like a great idea, with one important caveat. Even with a combined pool mileage account containing more miles than any one person might otherwise have, it does not prevent the airline from raising eligible mileage redemption levels. So if you’re going to pool miles, try to redeem them as quickly as you can.
