The Essentials

Most Cruise Ships Are Not All Inclusive

If you’re booking a cruise and trying to budget for the trip, remember that what you are paying for your cabin is the beginning of your total expense, not the end.

Most cruise ships are not all inclusive. With few exceptions, everything from drinks to onboard attractions, and all the other extras, are revenue generators for the cruise line and often a surprise to first-time cruisers.

Want to go on that zip line? That could be $50. Want a daybed at the adult-only pool? Try $400.

Even bottled water has a price. And most onboard restaurants have an upcharge.

Want to stay connected? There’s a WiFi package, which most passengers exceed and end up paying more. So whatever your budget for the cabin, multiply by 2.5 and you’ll then avoid shipboard sticker shock.
