The Essentials

How to Travel with Medication

If you’re like many Americans, chances are you’re on at least one medication.

The challenge of traveling with medicine is two-fold.

First, know how to identify a drug by its generic name, and be able to explain to police and/or customs officials why you need to take it.

Have your doctor write you a letter naming the drug by its brand as well as its generic name.

And the second challenge is getting refills, especially if you’re overseas.

That’s when the generic name comes in very handy.

Even if English is not their first language, pharmacists will know exactly what to give you.
