The Essentials

How US Airports Rank

The US hasn’t had a brand new airport in nearly 30 years — and that airport was Denver, which opened in 1995.

But many airports are being renovated and redesigned. So which are the best?

The annual Skytrax awards are out, and Terminal B at New York’s LaGuardia and Houston’s HOBBY Airport scored five stars.

Atlanta’s Hartsfield and Washington’s Reagan got just three stars — average.

DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) scored poorly in terms of food, beverage and shopping options.

And what about Denver, our relatively newest airport? It got poor marks for TSA checkpoints, which Skytrax calls a pinch point.

And Los Angeles’ LAX scores poorly in terms of airport drop off access.
