Want to fly in economy and almost guarantee an entire row of seats to yourself?
A current travel hack is guaranteeing this, although the tactic is certainly questionable.
A traveler books one discounted ticket in his name in coach, and then books two refundable tickets in other names and chooses the two seats next to him.
Forty five minutes before the flight, he cancels those tickets and gets a full refund. Some are calling this strategy the poor man’s first class.
Is it legal? Technically, it is.
But is it dishonest and selfish? Yes, and it might violate an airline’s condition of carriage.
Many airlines explicitly prohibit passengers from holding reservations for the purposes of blocking seats. And that could get you booted from the flight.
