The Essentials

How to Get the Best Airline Deal

How do you know when you are buying an airline ticket online that you’re getting the best deal?

Most travelers don’t comparison shop.

They go online to one service, pick the best price offered, hit the keystrokes and pay.

That can be a mistake, especially when booking overseas flights. Here’s an example.

On one search on Orbitz, for a flight from Istanbul to Adana, another city in Turkey, the lowest roundtrip fare on Turkish Airlines was $760.

But then, going on Turkish Airlines’ own website, based in Istanbul, the same flight is priced at $220. It’s a huge difference.

The lesson is for overseas flights, always log on to the big search website, and then go to the individual airline’s own website.
