The latest rankings for the unhappiest states in America are out. Analysts studied a number of factors, including residents’ emotional and physical well-being, the areas’ employment picture, and environmental issues.

 

West Virginia ranks as the unhappiest U.S. state.

 

The Mountain State finished with the highest rate of adult depression and placed last in emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and adequate sleep. 

 

The number two unhappiest state — Louisiana. The Pelican State hosts one of the worst work-environments in the United States and scored poorly in sports participation, safety, work and divorce.  

 

The third unhappiest state, Tennessee, has the second-worst community and environment in the country. 

 

Arkansas and Kentucky rounded out the top five unhappiest states in the U.S.
