It’s not just continuing chaos at US airports with mounting delays and cancellations. It’s also become the Wild Wild West at many airports.
The US Transportation Security Administration seized 3,251 firearms at airport security checkpoints within the first half of 2023. That averages out to 18 firearms a day.
But wait, it gets worse. Of all the weapons seized from airline passengers, more than 92% were loaded!
This is a larger number of guns seized than last year at the same time, and last year only 86% were loaded.
And just a few weeks ago, TSA officers seized 90 weapons within the first five days of July!
Based on these numbers, the TSA projects it will seize a record number of firearms this year, more than last year’s total of 6,542!
Anyone whose weapon is seized by TSA faces a civil fine up to $14,500, and of course, based on local laws, can also be arrested.
And with passenger volume at US airports up 15% over last year, authorities are worried about how many weapons they may be missing.
