How to Find Out Plane History

If you’re an airline geek like me — or just mildly curious — it’s easy to find out the exact history of the plane you’re flying on including when it was made and where it’s been.

And how do you do that? Find the tail number of the exact aircraft assigned to your flight.

Some apps, like Flight Radar 24, not only tell you the tail number, but also tell you when the plane was built, and where it’s been during the last week.

What I like to do when getting on my flight is to look right behind the hinge on the boarding door for a small metal plate.

It tells me when and where the plane was made.

Another useful website is airfleets.net. You can see an airline’s entire fleet this way and where it has been deployed.

Want the most updated seat map? There’s SeatGuru.com, which does a great job of updating seat configurations on just about all major airlines.
