Eye on Travel

Eye on Travel — Canary Islands — December 11, 2021

This week’s broadcast of Eye on Travel comes from the Canary Islands. We’ll have all the travel updates — with reports on the new COVID travel rules and restrictions. And then we’ll take you around the eight, mostly unknown islands in the Atlantic and reveal some of their hidden gems. And I’ll report on the continuing tragic case of the Boeing 737 Max — with an extended conversation with Peter Robison, Author of Flying Blind: The 737 MAX Tragedy and the Fall of Boeing. From La Palma, where the volcano is still erupting, we’ll speak with geologist Nieves Sánchez Jiménez, and her work studying the wrath of mother nature. Then, in Tenerife, we’ll hit the water with marine biologist Mercedes Reyes, who talks about the very special hot spot of biodiversity between Tenerife and the island of La Gomera — where you’ll find about one-third of the dolphin and whale species. We’ll head stateside for the latest tech reporting with Consumer Reports’ Thomas Germain, with some important advice: what you need to know before you join that next public WiFi spot at the airport. And then a musical treat as we explore traditional Canary Islands folk music: with a performance by timple player Germán López. There’s all this and more as Eye on Travel broadcasts from the Canary Islands.
