The Essentials

Recognized Digital Travel Passes

When it comes to acceptable travel credentials in the world of COVID-19, not many countries are talking to each other.

There still is no centralized set of standards for a universally readable, verifiable, updateable and unforgeable vaccine passport.

But a number of countries, regions and organizations have now developed their own digital travel passes that are being recognized.

In the U.K., the National Health Service COVID Pass is used for both travel and to enter certain concerts and museums.

The EU Digital COVID Certificate is used in all EU member states and some nearby countries such as Israel and Morocco. The certificate allows for free movement throughout the  EU and also keeps records of recent recoveries from COVID-19 on top of vaccinations and test results.

France has its own travel pass and is compatible with the EU Digital COVID Certificate for travel, and is also required for entry to large events and venues in France.

Even the airlines have developed a pass — the International Air Transport Association Pass is now being implemented by several major airlines and is compatible with vaccination certificates from over 50 countries.
