Most Affordable Cities for Solo Renters: A New Ranking

In a world where more people are living outside major cities and “working from anywhere” — the average rents in those large cities have dropped. And in some cases, they have plummeted.

The most recent survey of solo renters by financial technology company Smartasset.com ranked the most affordable cities to live based on average rent, percentage of housing units with fewer than two bedrooms, cost of living and unemployment rate.

Coming in first for affordable rents was Cincinnati, Ohio with an average monthly rent of $612 and an annual cost of living of $22,721.

At number two is Minneapolis, Minnesota at $893.

Omaha, Nebraska comes in at third place followed by other affordable renter cities, St. Louis, Missouri and Lexington, Kentucky.
