Resort Fees & When You May Dispute

For years, travelers have been angered, surprised or both by hotels assessing resort fees that can be as high as $50 a night.

In court cases currently being litigated, the claim is that this represents failure to disclose or at the very least an absence of transparent pricing.

In the meantime, some hotels have attempted to cleverly rename these resort fees as destination fees.

At one hotel, the $20 a day “destination fee” gets you a bottle of water and your guest room comes with a full-length mirror.

How insulting is that?

Keep in mind that until these court cases are resolved, if a hotel doesn’t disclose these fees when you make your reservation or when you check in, you have a right to dispute these charges when you get your bill.
