Ways to Predict Airplane Turbulence

None of us likes in-flight turbulence.

Well if necessity is truly the mother of invention, there are now new websites and apps that may make it possible to better predict turbulence on your next flight.

Trubli uses forecasts from the National Weather Service to predict the amount of turbulence a flight may encounter up to 36 hours before departure. Just input your departure and arrival airports and the day of your flight.

A site called Turbulence Forecast may put you at ease by allowing you to look at a United States map of potential turbulent areas and pilot reports.

And what about once you’re in the air?

Sky Guru is an app that uses aeronautic information and mathematical models to provide updates and explanations about what is happening in real time. This doesn’t mean you’ll have a smooth flight. But at least you may know it might get bumpy just slightly ahead of your fellow passengers.
