Things like restaurant meals, groceries or supplies shouldn’t be a problem. But for other travel purchases like hotel rooms or rental cars, beware. Most vendors will block charges on that debit card. It could be as much as $300 a day to hold against your final bill or any additional charges.

Here’s the problem. That money is immediately deducted from your account.

My advice: don’t do it.

It often restricts your spending ability or worse, it can zero it out.

My other advice, always use a credit card, which retains all of your rights under the federal credit laws.
