How Lifestyle Choices Are Changing Travel

Not long ago, it was estimated that 62% of all Americans would die within 20 miles of where they were born. This was down significantly from my parents’ generation, when that number hovered at about 82%.

Again, from my parent’s generation, it was estimated that you’d have perhaps two significant jobs in your lifetime.

Today, that number has at least doubled. What does this mean?

It means that even before the pandemic, we were traveling more — not just for vacation — but also to seek new jobs.

The difference now — perhaps because of the pandemic — is that our pace is accelerating and our goals have been redefined.

We are no longer simply looking for a vacation destination but a specific lifestyle choice. And this is quickly changing how hotels and resorts are marketing themselves.

It’s no longer about the pool or the beach or the restaurants, but it’s about the work/life balance the hotel can provide for the long term.
