You probably had no idea that Alaska’s Katmai National Park and Preserve’s  has an annual Fat Bear Week.

We’re happy to report that this year, 12 bears competed for the crown. And we now…have a very big winner!

The fattest bear weighs at least 1,400 pounds. And according to park rangers, his “sedulous quest for salmon secured him a stout stomach. And only rival males of comparable size, of which, there are very few, can challenge him for fishing spots.”

Tthe winning bear is now preparing for his annual hibernation, where he could easily lose body weight. But for the moment, the fattest bear has an appropriate name: 747.
