The Essentials
Latest on Cruise Ships in the Coronavirus Pandemic
At this moment, no cruise ships are operating, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) maintains a no-sail order for the United States-based cruise lines that extends through July 24th.
Each cruise line has been required to present a comprehensive plan to the CDC before the agency considers lifting the order.
So how will your next cruise be different? Norwegian is the first line to announce new procedures, including new air filters on its ships, a staggered passenger boarding procedure, frequent temperature checks of passengers and crew, and some ports not deemed safe will be dropped from itineraries.
But you shouldn’t expect any ships to sail before the fall, because the CDC still has to lift the no-sail order. In fact, most new cruise ship bookings are for 2021.
