A Look At The Meadow

3-30-2020

Behind me is The Meadow around 98th street off Fifth Avenue in Central Park. When I was a child, it’s where I first learned how to throw, catch and bat and play in a pickup game of softball. And the tall building over my left shoulder is Mt. Sinai hospital, where my father, a doctor, was on the staff for 50 years. And the white tents? The new 68 bed pop-up hospital being constructed in the park to hold COVID-19 cases. The first patients arrive tomorrow. (This is the first time since the Civil War that a field hospital has been erected in Central Park). Here’s hoping I can return to The Meadow soon to celebrate everyone’s recovery and throw the ball around once more. Until then, my thoughts and prayers are with the patients, the doctors and nurses…the real champions in this life and death game.
