The Essentials

The Most Weather Delayed Airports

This is the time of year when more of us get stuck by weather at airports.

And some U.S. airports do a lot better in weather than others.

For example, despite the snow, Salt Lake has an amazing record for keeping its operations open.

But what are the airports with the most weather delays? Newark, Atlanta and Chicago’s O’Hare. In fact, O’Hare racked up over 4,503 hours of weather delays in the most recent survey, the most out of any airport in the U.S.

But extreme weather isn’t just limited to storms. Some airports are prone to tornadoes including St. Louis, Tulsa, Memphis, and Houston. And in Denver, the weather at high altitude can also back up the runways as 41% of flights departing from the city are delayed due to weather.

Do you have any guesses for the airports with the fewest delays? You’ll have to head west to Honolulu.
