Should you buy it when renting a car or do you even need it in the first place?
First, there are four different kinds of insurance. The collision damage waiver covers damage to your vehicle. Supplemental liability protection is for damage to other people or property. Personal effects coverage and personal accident insurance are for medical benefits.
And if you look at the daily rates, it can all get expensive. But if you’re renting the car in the United States, and you have your own auto, renters, or homeowners insurance, chances are your own policies already cover you.
So check with your own policy language, and bring a copy with you when you rent your next car. And you’ll save a lot of money.
