Travel Tip: Flying With Kids

It has been said that there are two kinds of travel–first class and with children.

Yes, I know, we’ve all been on planes with screaming kids. But at the same time, consider this. New research from Texas A&M University indicates that travel increases kids’ well-being and stimulates emotional development.

If you’re flying with kids and want to increase your own well-being, consider this. Be strategic while booking your flight. Try to pick a flight during your baby’s nap time or early in the morning, when he or she is more likely to still be sleepy.

Choose a seat on the plane closest to the bathroom. In addition to the obvious diapers, snacks and extra clothes, bring something that your baby associates with sleeping, for example a favorite blanket.

Also, make sure to have your calming tools: stickers, toys and fully charged iPad loaded with music videos and games. And of course, take off and landings are the hardest parts.

Because of the changing pressure, younger children often experience strong earaches. That’s the time to give your baby something to suck on like a pacifier or lollipop.

While I’m at it, if there’s enough screaming on board, give me a pacifier too!
