Travel Tip: Free Museum Days

What are your favorite museums in America? The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.? The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York? Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts? Or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art?

In many cases, there’s a problem. It’s the price of admission, which is a barrier. On average, it costs about $20 to enter most museums in America.

But smart travelers know how to visit many of America’s best museums for free by finding out the magic days.

In New York, come to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on Saturdays from 5 p.m. to about 8 p.m., and admission is free.

And New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is also free on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts is also free on Wednesdays after 4 p.m. The museum also waives admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Memorial Day. Otherwise it’s $25 to get in.

And in Los Angeles, the Natural History Museum is free all day on the first Tuesday of each month.

So plan accordingly and see the best museums for free of charge.
