Travel Tip: Criteria for Ranking the Best & Worst Airlines
I’m always asked my opinion about what I think are the best and worst airlines.
I don’t give a definitive answer because I can’t make those kinds of generalizations.
The words best and worst need to be more specifically focused.
For example, on-time performance, comfort, refund policies, and overbooked flights, are just a few.
Recently, WalletHub.com did its own research on some of these topics.
What’s the best airline for not overbooking flights? JetBlue.
The airline won’t do it as a matter of policy.
If you have a reserved seat, you stand the best chance of not getting bumped.
How about comfort? Spirit and Frontier rank as the least comfortable, and JetBlue ranks near the top.
Recent computer failures notwithstanding, Delta ranks the best for avoiding cancellations, delays, and mishandled luggage.
What are the worst in those categories? Envoy Air and ExpressJet.
Remember, just because an airline boasts it’s the ontime carrier means nothing, since it’s based on an average.
You need to look at specific routes.
If the airline’s flight between Cleveland and Phoenix is late 96 percent of the time and you’re on that flight, then it’s not really the on-time carrier.
