Travel Tip: How to Leave Voice Messages
Sometimes, travel and circumstance make calling someone long distance impossible. That’s when you may just want to leave a message.
Here’s how to leave voice messages while you travel.
WhatsApp, which was traditionally used for text messaging, also has a Voice Message feature.
Now, this is not exactly a voicemail; it’s more of an audio text message. This means you can record it with one button, hit send, and the recipient can listen to it through the app. No dialing is needed.
Apple’s new iOS8 update has a voice messaging tool as well. Through iMessage, you can record a message and send it just like you would a text.
The idea is that you can hear a short message straight from the source—and not have to ask Siri to read the text for you.
Google is also getting into the game. The Android app will be called Cord, and will allow messages up to 12 seconds long.
Of course, dinosaurs like me still appreciate the art of conversation. But when making a call isn’t possible, I’ll take the sound of someone’s voice over an impersonal text message any day.
