Travel Tip: Winter Art Fairs

Locations in this article:  Miami, FL New York City, NY

Europe may have history on its side, but that doesn’t mean that it trumps the US in terms of culture. There are countless art fairs held throughout the country every year—and it’s not just about high-end experiences.

Art Basel Miami is the sister show of the most famous of them all: Art Basel in Switzerland. The fair returns to South Florida this December with works from more than 260 galleries around the world.

Passes are expensive, but you want to look for are the free events, which include outdoor screenings. At the start of 2012 is 18th annual LA Art Show, which lasts four days and features four distinct sections of work, from modern to traditional to posters to prints. It’s a steal with tickets starting at $20.

Last, but certainly not least, is the Armory Show in New York City, which has spawned an entire Arts Week in the city. The fair is divided into Modern and Contemporary shows with some of the most important works of the 20th and 21st centuries.

So whether you are a serious collector or just an interested admirer, be sure to check out what these great art fairs have to offer.
