Travel Tip: Unusual Races

Listen up, adventure travelers. Maybe you’ve participated in races or obstacle courses, but you probably haven’t done anything like these events…that is, unless you’re totally nuts!

Ever heard of a Zombie Race? It gives new meaning to the phrase “run for your life.” It’s a 5K obstacle course that’s totally infested with zombies! What’s really creative is that there’s a start and finish line, but it may not be a direct route. There are multiple ways to go—depending on what’s chasing you. These races take place all over the country in summer and fall.

Then there’s the Tough Mudder, which is, well, seriously tough. We’re talking obstacles that were designed by British Special Forces. These races take place all over the world. And yes, there is plenty of mud involved.

There are marathons….and then there’s the stuff for the rest of us. Check out the Marathon du Medoc that’s still the traditional 26.2 miles. But you get to taste wine along the way! The race starts at the civilized time of 9:30 am, and you’ll be greeted at every checkpoint with a glass of wine. The farther you go run, the better the food pairings get. Finish the race, and you get a bottle of wine to bring home.

Now that’s the kind of event I could get into.
