Travel Tip: 2012 Anniversaries

Locations in this article:  Baltimore, MD Los Angeles, CA San Francisco, CA

Turns out, 2012 is a big year when it comes to anniversaries. No, I’m not talking about doomsday or the Mayan calendar. Here’s what’s happening in the world of travel.

Believe it or not, 2012 is the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge. But don’t just take a picture of the famous San Francisco icon. Take some time to visit the California Historical Society, which has a special exhibit about the history of the bridge.

And this year, the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Montreal, and the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston are all turning 100.

The Grand Hotel in Mackinac Island will celebrate its 125th anniversary. You can join the party on July 10 and stay for a weekend of music and fireworks.

We already commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Titanic, but here’s what’s coming up next: the bicentennial of the war that most people forgot: the War of 1812.

This is the war that gave us the American flag, the national anthem, and, oh yeah, we invaded Canada…what?

To commemorate that anniversary, there are a number of events happening this summer, including parade of tall ships and naval vessels in Baltimore and Boston harbors.
