Travel Tip: Boat to Table

Locations in this article:  Miami, FL

You’ve heard of farm-to-table restaurants, so here’s a new twist on that…boat to table! You’ll actually know where your seafood is coming from before it lands on your plate.

For starters, you can check out the Trace and Trust program. It’s a network of fishermen, distributors and restaurants that let you know who caught your fish, from where, when and how. It will even tell you which boat it came from!

It’s mostly available in parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts right now, but this is a very cool program that’s likely to―well, catch on.

And then, there are plenty of BYOB restaurants. But how about, BYOF? That’s right, bring your own fish. For example, Fifi’s Place Restaurant in Miami lets you bring your own catch―they’ll clean it and cook it just the way you want.

Every Monday at Sagaponack Restaurant in New York you can bring your own fish, and the chef will cook it up and serve it with a side dish for $14.

On the West Coast, Malibu Seafood Shack is owned and operated by commercial fishermen…and the only reason they’re not open for breakfast is because they’re out catching your lunch.
