Fantasy Baseball Camp: Training Like a Yankee, Part 4

Locations in this article:  Detroit, MI Seattle, WA

We finish breakfast and walk by the training room. The line of beat up campers stretches out the door. This time it only took two days of camp for the queue to be longer than the breakfast buffet!

First Kangaroo Court of camp was on the docket before the morning games presided over by Mickey Rivers, who was known as ‘Mick The Quick’ for his blazing speed. Mickey played 15 big league seasons, four with the Yankees.

Unlike with the Pirate and Tiger camps, Rivers merely presided while the respective coaches did all the Kangaroo Court work. In the past, the court leaders were judge, jury and prosecutor!

Former Yankee pitcher Jeff Nelson turned his team in and fined them each $10 for applauding the opponents on Tuesday. As Nellie said “The Yankees don’t clap for the stinkin’ Red Sox and my guys are not going to clap for our opponent”

Then BarryO got his camp Court indoctrination. He got hammered for not knowing who Bucky was. Rivers fined him $50 and told him an appeal was unacceptable.

And before Barry could get out his wallet our coach Homer Bush recommended another $10 fine for getting doubled up on an infield fly rule on Tuesday to end our first game.

Almost on cue Bucky Dent yelled, “He had no idea who I was. How the hell would he know what an infield fly rule is?” The clubhouse broke up in laughter and BarryO was leading the laugh brigade!
