Peggy in Jackson, Mississippi asked: I booked a cruise with a travel agency in June and picked out a certain cabin that was mid-ship on the outside corridor. My husband received our pre-boarding papers and they do not have our cabin on the docs. The cruise does not have us signed to the room, but the travel agent gave me confirmation of that particular cabin with the deposit. Of course the agency said they will get back to me… I do not want to put in the front of the ship due to seasickness. What would you do?

Peter answered Peggy: If your travel agency doesn’t help you then they’re not being your agency. In fact, they’re being pathetic. You can call the agent number for your cruise line if you have a confirmation number. When you get them on the phone say, “Hey what cabin am I in?” You’ll know if you have what you need if you look at the brochure that you were given which has the every cabin on the ship.

The bottom line here is this particular travel agency is being bad. You have a client to serve here with a legitimate question. They want a particular cabin on the ship, they’ve paid for it; if you can’t give them the answer you give them your commission back cause you haven’t done your homework.

Peggy, you mentioned that you got seasick. Turn out the best cabin on the ship is actually the cheapest cabin on the ship. It’s the inside middle cabin, lower deck, lower center of gravity. There’s no pitch and no roll. You’re not going to spend much time in your cabin except for sleeping and showering so save some money. And the best part of the deal is you leave the cabin and spend all time outside when you want to be outside.
